Course Introduction:

 

Workshops create space where people from different background & interests work together to achieve specific results. In development cooperation, managing this space can be a real challenge.

 

Effectively-designed workshop processes and effective moderation techniques can help people to adjust their interests and contribute for a mutual goal. It also helps us to overcome barriers of hierarchy, conflicts, competition, and self-interest which are common in any societal context.

 

This training offers you a range of workshop-related issues, from planning to on-stage practice.

 

Course Objectives:

 

By the end of the course, delegates should have developed:

  • a wider range of options for planning and structuring focus groups
  • more effective listening skills for moderating focus groups
  • greater confidence in their ability to apply a wide range of tools and techniques relevant to social and commercial research
  • a wider range of approaches to moderating, including the use of NLP to energize groups and meet the demands of client observation

 

Who Should Attend?

 

This course will benefit moderators with experience of the qualitative process who wish to be able to provide a broader opportunity to their clients. It is also relevant to clients used to working with qualitative projects who wish to gain greater insight into the moderating process.

  • The moderation process
  • Overview of methods and approaches for different contexts
  • Planning matrix and other planning instruments
  • How to deal with difficult situations and problematic dynamics during a workshop
  • Functions and tasks of the moderator
  • Question techniques
  • Practical application of facilitation techniques including feedback
  • Moderation within the context of an OBE system
  • Moderation and assessment methods and activities
  • The moderator’s role and responsibilities

Module 2:

  • Plan and prepare for Moderation 
  • Planning the extent of moderation and methods of moderation 
  • Clarifying the context of the assessments under review
  • Considering special needs 
  • Planning the moderation methods and processes 
  • Moderation techniques and processes
  • Sampling of assessments

Module 3:

  • Conduct moderation
  • Checking and judging the assessment instruments and process
  • Confirming that special needs of learners have been provided for
  • Handling appeals against assessment decisions
  • Moderating recognition of prior learning
  • Making the moderation decision
  • Moderation checklists
  • Confirming the assessment decisions

Module 4:

  • Advice and support assessors
  • The varccs report
  • Giving feedback to assessors

Module 5:

  • Report, record and administer moderation

 

Module 6:

  •  Review moderation systems and processes
  •  Using a SWOT Analysis
  • Management Systems and Policies
